Welcome to the UNM Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship program

Program Director
Sally Vender, MD

The Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship program at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico offers a broad based education and clinical experience so that our fellows may become the future leaders in the field of pediatric anesthesia.

We provide twelve months of subspecialty education and training in all aspects of pediatric anesthesiology. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We offer two fellow positions through the National Resident Match Program or NRMP.

While we are proud of our program, our clinical care, and our educational curriculum, we know that our greatest strength is our people. The division of pediatric anesthesia at UNM is made up of a diverse group of board certified anesthesiologists who offer unique contributions in their area of expertise to residents and fellows. Some of these areas include education, pediatric airway management, pediatric regional anesthesia, and pediatric cardiac anesthesia. Many of our faculty members are double boarded in specialties like Pediatrics, intensive care, and cardiac anesthesia.

We strive to provide a rigorous and challenging training program in a caring, nurturing, and supportive environment. The focus of our fellowship program is more about offering the best in education and clinical experiences than utilizing fellows “to get the work done”. Our faculty are more than supervisors, they are mentors and colleagues, and have your best interest in mind at all times.
