The Bill and Barbara Richardson Pavilion, which is the home of UNM Children’s hospital, opened in 2006. There are 6 dedicated pediatric operating rooms and we also work at several off-site locations including the MRI suite, cardiac catheterization lab, and cancer center. Our fellows get exposure to an ample number of pediatric cases. Below, you’ll find a link to the case logs of our fellows from the years 2008-2013 which allows comparison to national averages. Besides working in the pediatric OR, there are rotations in the pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU, pediatric acute pain, and palliative care.

We currently have a rapidly growing congenital heart surgical program that began in the Fall of 2012. Fellows currently also do a two-month rotation in pediatric cardiac anesthesia at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, CA. At this point, all of our fellows go to Stanford for this rotation, but this may not be compulsory in the future if a sufficient number of cases are performed at UNM. We do not currently perform pediatric solid organ transplants.
